Owensboro Public Schools-An Excellent Place to Be!
Welcome to the Owensboro Public Schools. Our schools provide students with outstanding educational opportunities, highly qualified teachers, excellent facilities, technical resources, a caring environment, and a wide range of opportunities to help ensure that every child is successful.
The quality of education OPS students receive has resulted in Owensboro High School being recognized by U.S. News and World Report; the district continuing to perform well on state assessments; state test scores continuing to climb; and many other achievements.
Computer technology is an integral part of the curriculum with the Internet and instructional software used in grades K-12. This creates an environment where teachers and students become more proficient in using a wide variety of tools to enhance learning, problem solving, communication, collaboration, productivity and creativity.
In the 2011-2012 school year as part of the District's digital initiative, students in grades 5-12 were the first in the nation to receive Apple's Macbook Air laptops and the new Macintosh Lion operating system at these grade levels.
Routinely, Owensboro Public Schools produce National Merit Finalists, Governor's Scholars, Regional Academic All-Stars, state MathCounts winners, Duke TIP program participants, state music competition winners, academic team standouts, outstanding athletes, and a stellar drama program, just to mention a few areas of excellence. The high school offers approximately 20 Advanced Placement courses each year. OPS students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities.
In 2010, the district completed a $23 million construction project at Owensboro High School that added state-of-the-art fine arts classrooms, a blackbox theatre, and an upgrade to existing performance areas. OHS is the host school for fine arts students enrolled in the new Community Campus Academy. The OHS addition also added a 2,500-seat gym and physical education facilities allowing for expanded sports opportunities.
Success for every student is the goal of the district. For more information, please visit us on the Web at: www.owensboro.kyschools.us
